Individual Therapy Utah County
What Is Individual Therapy?
When Most people think about “therapy”, what they are picturing is individual therapy. Individual therapy is a 1-on-1 session with the therapist who talks with you to understand the problems or patterns of behavior that you are struggling with. Sometimes people know exactly what events in their life led them to their current concerns, but sometimes it takes a bit of investigation and the objective view of the therapist to help you piece together how you got to be where you are and what needs to happen to help you overcome your challenges and live your life on your terms.
How Can You Benefit from Individual Therapy Sessions?
Individual therapy can be really helpful for people struggling with anxiety, depression, sadness, addiction, or difficulty coping with life’s difficulties. Our therapists are specially trained in helping clients overcome the effects of trauma, which can manifest in a variety of ways. We also take advantage of other evidence based methods to help you both understand and work through the problems that you are experiencing so you can. Our objective is to help you heal, to get past the hard things you face, not just to put a bandaid on a problem that needs solutions. Individual therapy may be just the thing to take your life to the next level and set you free from the pain and trials that you are facing.
What Does an Individual Therapy Session Look Like?
If you are new to therapy, you might feel nervous about trying it out for the first time. You might have an image of a mind reading psychologist or a couch where you lay down and talk about how your dreams and childhood are messed up. In reality, what it looks like is you come and sit down with a therapist (who is not a mind reader, nor a judge, nor a superhero) on a couch (you can lay down if you want to – totally optional) and talk about what is bothering you. It’s different from just talking with a close friend because our therapist are highly trained in recognizing patterns of thought and behavior and how to change those patterns so you can escape the vicious cycles you find yourself in. Everything you say is kept confidential, and our therapists are very warm and kind, so it’s the perfect environment to talk about things you may not feel comfortable talking with your friends or family about. There is no moral judgement about your actions, just a dedication therapist to help you live the life that you want to.
